NATURE, HISTORY AND ADVENTURE, THE DIAMONDS OF ANDARAÍ
Andaraí is home to many attractions in the Chapada Diamantina, the most famous being Igatú, a little village that dates back to the 19th century. The town was founded after diamonds were discovered and the constructions were made right in the middle of the hills. Today it is a quaint tiny town that is built of stones and still has many ruins from the times of the diamonds. The enchantment of Igatú begins right after you get on the stone road that wanders upward into the hills, The views are fabulous and get better all the time. The climate is very pleasant and walking tours can be done all year round.
Upon arriving in the village, the simple square, which has served as a backdrop for many films, will get your attention. To get to the Art Gallery and the open air museum from the square is just a matter of minutes. At the museum you can get to know the local history. It is well worth it to hire a local guide or get an old-timer prospector to take you around to the wonderful attractions and hear the stories.
For those who like adrenaline, there are many opportunities to go rock climbing and to do tree top canopy tourism. Igatú offers the best options for those who are looking for tours with generous doses of nature and adrenaline, while having a privileged view from high up in the mountains.
